Updated: May 17

After Valve's discontinuation of the iconic DOTA Pro Circuit, many fans wondered about the future of DOTA 2 esports. However, third-party tournament organizers like ESL and PGL have stepped up to the plate to produce some quality, top-tier DOTA 2 events. Next up: PGL Wallachia Season 1 in Bucharest, Romania, beginning on May 10, 2024.

Under the aegis of PGL, sixteen of the best DOTA 2 teams will compete, but only one will emerge victorious. With the inaugural championship title and $1M prize pool on the line, there's everything to play for!

Read on for everything you need to know about PGL Wallachia Season 1, including the schedule, competition format, prize pool distribution, and more!

PGL Wallachia Season 1: Format

PGL Wallachia maintains a traditional format seen in many Tier-1 DOTA 2 competitions, consisting of a Group Stage and Playoffs, culminating in the Grand Finals.

For the Group Stage, there will be a modified Swiss-system with sixteen teams competing. All matches will be played as a best-of-three (Bo3) series. The top eight teams advance to the Playoffs, while the remaining teams are eliminated.

The Playoffs will be a double-elimination bracket. All matches, except the Grand Final, will be best-of-three (Bo3). The Grand Final itself will be a best-of-five (Bo5).

The $1 million prize pool will be distributed between all sixteen teams, with the lion's share of $300,000 going to the winners.

PGL Wallachia Season 1: Teams

A total of sixteen teams will compete at the DOTA 2 PGL Wallachia event. Ten teams were pre-invited, while the remaining six teams worked their way through regional qualifiers to earn their place. The major regions, Western Europe, Eastern Europe, China, North America, and South America, all have at least one team in the competition.

There has been a lot of chaos and confusion surrounding the teams attending PGL Wallachia Season 1. Despite multiple deadlines, Tundra Esports (Western Europe) and Blacklist International (Southeast Asia) are both unable to secure visas for the tournament. Their places have been relegated to MOUZ and Azure Ray respectively, meaning Southeast Asia no longer has any representation in the tournament.

Without further ado, here are all sixteen teams fighting for the PGL Wallachia championship title.
